Day 1 – Today travel to Berlin, OH and check into your hotel for a three night stay.
Dinner this evening will be at Chalet in the Valley which will have a Swiss buffet and fondue party. Start with the delicious Guggisberg Swiss cheese fondue as an appetizer and end your delicious buffet with a Chocolate fondue with various dipping confections.
Day 2 – This morning meet your local guide for an Amish Back Roads tour. Your guide will explain the history of the area, the Amish community and customs throughout the day.
First stop is a visit to the home of Lydia Troyer who is Amish and one of the best candy makers in the country. Roll up your sleeves in the kitchen and create some of the tasty treats that they will have to take home with you.
Next, tour the Millersburg Victorian Mansion and Glass Museum. Learn about valuable Millersburg Glass and then tour the gorgeous Queen Ann style mansion that was built around the turn of the 20th Century. The home is a Queen Anne style, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Also there is a legend of a ghost that resides in the home. The Victorian house features 28 rooms furnished in period, showcasing Victorian decor and items related to the history of Holmes County.
You will have time for lunch on own and shopping downtown Berlin where both sides of the street are loaded with shops, quilts, lace, baskets, Amish wood-working items, and collectibles.
This afternoon visit the Wendell August Forge. This is America’s oldest and largest forge, producing hand-wrought ornamental metal ware and elegant giftware in aluminum and other metals since 1923. Here lies the World’s
Largest Amish Buggy, made especially for Wendell August Forge by an Amish buggy maker, is a great photo opportunity, whether in front of the massive buggy or on a genuine buggy seat. High above the showroom is an LGB train that winds its way overhead on more than 300 feet of track. While here, you will create your own hand hammered picture to take home with you.
Next is a visit to Walnut Creek Cheese. Shop for a great selection of bulk foods smoked meats, cheese, jams and jellies, bakery items and much more. Walnut Creek Cheese features Butterchurn Kitchenwares which has thousands of kitchen accessories that are both decorative and functional.
Then you will tour Warther Carvings Museum. See incredible wood carvings of walnut, ebony and ivory that the Smithsonian Institution declared “Priceless works of Art”. Ernest “Mooney” Warther was declared the “World’s Master Carver” by carvers from Oberammergau Germany. You will marvel at this wonderful collection, as well as Freida Warther’s Button Collection that consists of 73,282 buttons. There is even one from Mrs. Lincoln’s Inaugural Dress.
Tonight, enjoy dinner from local celebrity Chef Michael Smith. Mike is a graduate of the Culinary Institute in Hyde Parke and is one of the premier chefs in the Amish Community. Enjoy a special cooking demo and program by Chef Mike. A delicious candlelight dinner will be served in the Ivory Room surrounded by the priceless works of art.
Day 3 – After breakfast, take a covered wagon tour Rolling Ridge Ranch. Featuring over 350 animals from around the world, this 1 ½ mile safari through 80 acres of pastureland will let you experience animals from six continents. You will also be able to feed many of the exotic animals on the tour.
Next stop is Dutch Creek Foods. Enjoy a behind the scenes tour of Dutchman Hospitality Corporation where they make pie fillings, salad dressing, meat products and more. Lunch is included on this tour and you will also learn how to make the peanut butter pie that you will enjoy for dessert.
The afternoon features a visit to Baltic Mill with a large variety of different bulk foods available. Products include deli meats, cheeses, pastas, candy, baked goods, spices, dried fruits, nuts, jams, peanut butter ground fresh daily and much more.
Then watch candle carving at Lamp Light Candle. It is quite a unique feat to hand carve wax and everyone will take home a gift item.
Enjoy dinner tonight on an Amish Farm with a feast fit for a King and Queen, as the family prepares everything without electricity. Following dinner you will make whoopie pies to take home with you.
Day 4 – This morning visit the Hershberger Bakery and Farmers Market. Here you will be able to buy fry pies, another Amish specialty, they say you haven’t tasted Amish Country until you have tasted a fry pie. Browse the large selection of fresh local produce and stock up on bakery items to take home.
Next is a visit to Heini’s Cheese Chalet. Here you will enjoy free samples of over 50 varieties of natural cheese, and delicious Gourmet Cheese Fudge. Heini’s offers also offers a large selection of meats from traditional Amish style to more specialized meats like Souse and Head Cheese. Brand new to the Heini’s Cheese is their Country Gift Shop.
