Day 1: New Orleans – Dixieland Jazz Cruise
Travel to New Orleans for a two night stay in the French Quarter. This evening you enjoy a Dixieland Jazz Dinner Cruise a great welcome to the city. Savor the beauty and romance of the New Orleans skyline aboard the last authentic steamboat on the Mississippi River. (D)
Day 2: New Orleans – French Quarter
Your day begins with a morning stroll through the French Quarter. Take in the sights with a French Quarter Walking Tour that includes everything from Bourbon Street to Jackson Square and the St. Louis Cathederal.
Next, on a driving tour of the City you’ll see the elegant homes of the Garden District, the Super Dome, neighborhoods that were destroyed by Katrina, above ground cemeteries and much more.
Also included today is a visit to Mardi Gras World where you see the floats and learn the history of this famous event. Plus you’ll have time to explore explore the shops and boutiques near your hotel. Later this evening you visit famous Mulates Restaurant for Dinner & Cajun Dance Lessons. (B,D)
Day 3: Natchez – Frogmore Plantation
Depart New Orleans in the morning and follow the Mississippi River north to Natchez, where you tour the Natchez townhouse Linden. Here you discuss plantation life with the mistress of the house in the morning. The Linden house is one of the oldest, most historic antebellum homes on tour in Natchez. The design of the front door was copied for Tara’s front door in Gone With The Wind and many articles have been written about the in Southern Living, Colonial Homes, and Reader’s Digest.
The afternoon feature is a tour of the Frogmore Plantation. It is an antebellum and modern, working cotton plantation with twenty historic buildings, including a steam cotton gin and computerized gin. While here, you will enjoy a musical presentation and participate in a Slave Wedding.
Then you visit the Delta Music Museum where local guides will discuss the Music of the Delta including Blues, Jazz and Rock. Dinner tonight is at a popular local restaurant. Check into your local hotel for a two night stay. (B,D)
Day 4: Natchez – Antebellum Homes
This day feature tours of two Natchez Antebellum Homes. You will feel like you stepped into the history books as you see some of Mississippi’s best preserved homes. As the oldest settlement on the Mississippi river and the terminus of the Natchez Trace, Natchez played a key role in the economic, social, cultural and political development of the US. As one of the wealthiest cities in antebellum America, it is a treasure trove of extravagant architecture and interiors. Dinner tonight is at a nice local restaurant. (B,D)
