Day 1 – Arriving in Elkins, WV you enjoy a two night stay at either the Holiday Inn Express in the Elkins Railyard, or the Issac Jackson Hotel.  Once you have checked in to your hotel your dinner is at either Graceland or Halliehurst, the Mansions of the Timber Barons.  Both elegant homes were built in 1890′s at the height of the timber era.

Your evening of entertainment is a new show titled, “The Greatest Show on Rails.”  At a small theater in the RailYard it is a nostalgic rail show that combines live music and video.   An unforgettable journey from station to station and down the track, a musical adventure “by rail” across America, filled with live music and film.  You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you might even dance…you just never know what could happen when you spend an evening at The RailYard.

Day 2 –This morning you board the Cheat Mountain Salamander’s climate controlled passenger cars for a 2 1/2 hour ride through the wild, high-mountain wilderness of West Virginia. A photo stop is made at the High Falls of the Cheat River. 18 feet tall and 150 feet across this beautiful location is 5 miles from the closest road. After High Falls your train follows the tumbling Cheat through another 21 miles of scenic wilderness. This is unspoiled and uninhabited forest, with gorgeous tree topped mountain vistas, where hardwoods and evergreens grow to the edge of boulder strewn white water rivers.

This one-way train ride ends at remote Cheat Bridge where your bus is waiting to transport you to the eastern side of Cheat Mountain and the town of Durbin.  On arrival here you enjoy a Plated Lunch at The Station Two Restaurant. You will have to call in lunch orders the day before as you travel to Elkins, Menu will provided with your Group Leader Packet.  After lunch you will also have time to shop for souvenirs at the Rail to Trail Store before your next train ride.

This afternoon the coal fired Durbin Rocket is bellowing smoke and anxious to start another exciting mountain rail expedition. Built in 1910 this steam locomotive pulls an authentic 1920s-era coach car and vintage wooden cabooses along the free-flowing Greenbrier River. This 10-1/2 mile scenic ride runs through the Monongahela National Forest.

Your evening entertainment begins with a meal at The Gandy Dancer Dinner Theater.  In a beautiful dining room you enjoy a very nice meal. Followed by the Mountain Memories Show Band and a musical variety show that is filled with high energy family-friendly comedy and music.  It’s an unforgettable evening at West Virginia’s largest dinner theater.

Day 3 – This morning you depart Elkins and start for home.  It doesn’t matter which direction you travel, West Virginia has many other wonderful photo stops that U.S. Tours can add to your day. These include Blackwater Falls, The New River Gorge Bridge, Highland Scenic Highway, Seneca Rocks & the magnificent Allegheny Range to our East; and a Lunatic Asylum.   Don’t leave us without adding a little more Wild & Wonderful to your tour.
